Under the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme of the central government, a loan campaign has been started to provide financial assistance to eligible farmers for animal husbandry activities i.e. dairy farming, sheep-goat, chicken, pig, rabbit farming. Interested farmers can take advantage of this scheme and build a sustainable livelihood by taking up animal husbandry.

What is Kisan Credit Card Scheme?

The central government’s Kisan Credit Card Yojana-KCC Loan scheme is available in all states of the country. Under this scheme, farmers are given loans for rearing cows, buffaloes, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens and rabbits. Under the Kisan Credit Card Scheme, interest rebate facility up to Rs 3 lakh is available and every farmer has the option of availing Rs 1.60 lakh loan facility without any security.

Kisan is providing 2% interest subsidy for the loan taken from the credit card, and if this loan is repaid on time, you can also avail the facility of 3% interest subsidy per annum. Farmers can get an overall interest rebate of 5% from the Government of India on the interest rate of the loan availed by the banks under their jurisdiction.

Livestock farmers, livestock owners can apply for Pashu Kisan Credit Card. Top banks like Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India etc. offer Kisan credit cards. To get a Kisan Credit Card, farmers should first visit a local bank and inquire about the availability of the Kisan Credit Card scheme. If the bank you approach is providing loan facility under the said scheme, get the application form and submit it along with some KYC documents.

Applying for Kisan Credit Card requires some documents like land documents, animal health certificate, passport size photographs, Aadhaar card, PAN card, voter ID card, bank account details. Bank officials will tell you what documents you need to submit. A credit card is issued based on the financial scale of the project or work.

How much loan will be available for what?

The Government of India, Services Department is providing loan facility at low interest rate through Nationalized Banks / Co-operative Societies to meet the operating expenses of those involved in animal husbandry activities. Details of units are as follows…

1 Dairy farming

A loan facility of Rs 36,000/- for a total of two cows with a maximum of Rs 18,000/- per cow will be available for maintenance of crossbred cattle (1+1).

For the management of improved buffaloes (1+1) a maximum of Rs.21,000/- per buffalo and a total of Rs.42,000/- for two buffaloes will be availed.

2 Sheep farming

For the maintenance of 10+1 sheep for 8 months of farming period, the loan facility will be Rs. 29,950/- for the sheep grazing in the pasture and Rs. 14,700/- for the sheep grazing in the plain.
For the maintenance of 20+1 lambs for 8 months of rearing period, a loan facility of Rs 57,200/- will be available for the sheep grazing in the pasture and Rs 28,200/- for the sheep grazing in the plain.
Further, for fattening 10 lambs, loan facility will be Rs 13,120 and for fattening 20 lambs Rs 26,200.

3 Goat farming

For the maintenance of 10+1 goats for 8 months of farming period, the loan facility will be Rs 29,950/- for the goats grazing in the field and Rs 14,700/- for the goats grazing in the field.
For the maintenance of 20+1 goats for a period of 8 months, a loan facility of Rs 57,200/- will be available for goats grazing in the field and Rs 28,200/- for goats grazing in the open

4 Pig farming

60,000/- for farming 10 fattening pigs for 8 months farming period will get loan facility.
5 Poultry Farming

For broiler farming, a maximum of Rs 80,000/- for 1,000 chickens will be available as a loan facility of Rs 80/- per chicken.
180 per hen for laying hens and up to a maximum of 1,80,000/- for 1,000 hens.
6 Rabbit farming

For 50+10 rabbit farming, maximum loan facility will be available upto 50,000/- rupees.
Farmers, farmer women and children of farmers who can undertake self-employment can avail loan facility for various livestock units mentioned above under Kisan Credit Card Scheme and carry out animal husbandry.
