Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Affairs meeting on Wednesday which approved the new central government scheme PM Vishwakarma. This is a five-year Rs 13,000 crore scheme from FY 2023-24 to FY 2027-28.

“The scheme aims to strengthen and nurture the master-disciple heritage or family-based traditional skills of artisans and artisans working with their hands and tools,” the government said in a statement.

Vishwakarma Yojana Information:

Under the ‘PM Vishwakarma’ scheme, artisans and artists will be able to get PM Vishwakarma certificate and identity card, loan facility up to Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh at 5 percent interest rate.

There will be two types of skill programs under the scheme. Basic and advanced. A stipend of Rs 500 per day is also given to the beneficiaries undergoing skill training. Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said.

These artisans are given support up to Rs 15,000 to purchase modern equipment. Ashwini Vaishnav also informed that five lakh families will be covered in the first year and a total of 30 lakh families in five years from 2024 to 28.
